Sunday Family Dinner is the most important meal of the week in our household. Things get in the way during the week: homework, sports, late work nights. On Sunday night we don’t make plans, no friends over after 4, its our most important family time. Sure there will be a Sunday here or there with a make up baseball game or a family event, but for the most part we make a point of having nothing to do on Sunday evening but cook and relax together.
For us it involves cooking and prep in the late afternoon, opening a bottle of wine for the chopping and sautéing while my husband and I chat about the weekend and the week we have coming up. The kids play together, sometimes they are helping in the kitchen, or maybe they are just playing a game of hide and go seek together. The meal is involved and large – enough for a second meal on Monday night. At the end of the process we all sit down together to enjoy a meal before the beginning of the next week.
