I always read lots of other food blogs and find so many great ideas. I’ve also been spending lots of time on Pinterest as of late, very inspirational. For a while now I’ve been thinking about having the occasional “Links” post to share recipes I’ve found and tried or great tips and tricks. It may not just be about food or recipes, sometime it may just be things I like (contrary to my kids belief, I do like things other than cooking). Let me know what you think of this new post format (and the links)! Should it be a regular thing?….as in Thoughts Every Thursday?
Make your own microwave popcorn – This is from the Naptime Chef (posted on Babble.com) and it could not be easier. I thought there would be voices of discontent over the change to homemade popped corn, but it was more of a “this popcorn is soooo good” response. I melt a little butter and add salt – don’t use too much butter, it gets really soggy and greasy, a little goes a long way. Oh, and don’t try to add extra kernels and pop it for longer, they will burn….just make a second batch.
Oscar Party Ideas – Having an Oscar Party? Twig & Thistle has lots of fun ideas and free printable downloads for invitations, ballots and even Oscar Bingo. (So if you are coming to my Oscar Party prepare for some bingo ladies.) Yes, I am indeed having a couple of friends over for an Oscar party, and will share some of the recipes in a future post.
Good Books – Are you always looking for a new book to get wrapped up in? I have to use caution, I tend to neglect all other things when I get involved in a great book. Not that it stops me, I just avoid times when I am really busy and other times I throw caution to the wind…sometimes you have to order a pizza and save the dishes for another day! The lists which are part of the Mom Advice Blog, are just a drop in the bucket of all the great things on this blog. The blogs author Amy finds time to read A LOT of books and has some great recommendations, this link is for the February books, check the blog for previous months.
Green Lentil Soup with Coconut Milk and Warm Spices – Saw a photo of this soup on Pinterest and once I saw coconut milk I knew I needed to try it. I had a bag of lentils in the pantry waiting to be used up. Of course, the title of the blog post on The Travelers Lunchbox was Cold Comfort and it was in the 50s and sunny today, the end of February in New Jersey…But it tasted really good.
Speaking of Coconut, these two things popped into my view today and at least one will be made tomorrow (and the other later in the week I’m sure). First up, Coconut Banana Bread. Can I tell you that I “Pinned” this on Pintrest and I got an email about 3 minutes later that said 54 people had repinned?! I find that astounding, maybe that happens all the time, but…anyway, looks pretty tasty! Second, Double Coconut Muffins from Smitten Kitchen. Only thing holding me back from these is the Coconut Oil, which I will purchase today….problem solved.
